Trend of Cancer Incidence Rates Vary by County

The following graph shows the 5-year trend in incidence rates in each county. The area in deep blue indicates the counties with rapid growth in cancer incidence rate. Although the prevalence of cancer is low in the west, it is growing faster than many counties in the east. Therefore, fewer cancer cases does not mean lower risk of cancer

Power Plants Impact on Cancer Incidence Rates

  • Nuclear power plants are close to some counties with high cancer prevalence. There might be cancer risks associated with living near a nuclear power plant.

  • In the central US, some counties with high cancer prevalence are close to fossil-fuel power plants. People living near a fossil-fuel power plant are explode to higher cancer risks.
